A globally recognized equipment manufacturer sought to evaluate the real-world performance of its newly released premium zero-turn mower. With the product entering a competitive marketplace, the client needed to understand how the mower stacked up against competitor models from the perspective of actual end-users. Beyond surface-level satisfaction, they wanted to uncover actionable insights around quality, reliability, ease of use, and areas of potential improvement. Solution
Prime46 partnered with the manufacturer to execute an in-depth qualitative research study involving 20 recent purchasers of the new zero-turn mower. These participants included both business and private users, providing a balanced perspective across commercial and residential applications. The study was conducted through structured phone interviews, allowing respondents to share detailed feedback on product performance, user experience, and comparisons with previous equipment. Discussions explored specific components such as operator controls, ride comfort, maintenance access, and cutting precision. The methodology also invited suggestions for improvement and gauged future purchase intent.
Results
- Customer Satisfaction: A strong 90% of participants stated they would repurchase the mower, underscoring confidence in the product’s performance and value.
- Key Strengths: Users most frequently praised the mower’s ease of maintenance, ride comfort, and the evenness and quality of the cut. Several respondents highlighted thoughtful engineering features that simplified routine servicing and enhanced user comfort during prolonged operation.
- Areas for Improvement: The most frequently cited opportunity was the deck height adjustment mechanism, with some users desiring more intuitive or ergonomic controls. Additional feedback pointed to operator control customization and parts availability as areas where further refinement could enhance the overall experience.
- Issue Frequency: Only 6 out of 20 participants reported any service issues, and importantly, no issue was repeated—indicating a lack of systemic problems and reinforcing the product’s reliability.

The research initiative provided the client with a rich set of user-driven insights, validating the mower’s strengths and revealing specific opportunities for enhancement. With these findings, product teams were able to address key usability concerns and prioritize design refinements that aligned with real-world needs.
